MilkbottleRocket by andidas MilkbottleRocket by andidas
[12/12/2004: EDIT: changed the background to a blue lightblue gradient, submitted for prints]

It's a Milkbottlerocket!

I just love the shape of tetrapack milkbottles, further i love the stylized 2D vector shapes of fire, so i combined the two, no reason.

Wow, I love this piece. The fire stream looks like a sort of felt, and gives the entire image a kid's toy feel. You did an amazing job on the texture of the rocket-it looks like porcelain, and it really gives the illusion that it's been glossed. I'm in awe of the varying edges-how you can go from a smoothed out corner to a flate pointy one. Excellent work!
As for critique, I'm hard pressed to find any. The one thing I notice is the very rounder corners of the fins. Perhaps if they were a bit less over constructed they might give the whole thing a softer feel. Second, perhaps a few minor imprefections in it (Bumps in the rocket, small dents, etc.) would make it seem altogether more used and more realistic.

This makes me want stronger bones. :P Very creative style, incredible texture. And I don't know why, but also hilarious. Its begging for a superhero to jump in and ride around in it. :+fav:

good work! :)

very cool +fav :)

the place where the fire meets the bottle is wierd..

a) Is the 2d fire placed just behind the rockethole?
b) There is shadow on the top of the flames, and they are on the lightsource that paints the light on the bottom of the rocket

thanks for your comment, i know the fire emission part is not ideally solved.

a) it is in the "middle", right below the rockethole, not behind.
b) i know about the shadows, but i deliberately left it, it is supposd to look more like a comic than a realistic.

I like it either way - it's still in my Fav :)

Very cool idea, I really like the creativity that you've displayed in creating this render. The modelling is well done and the transition from milk top to rocket is quite smooth. The flames are an interesting touch as they hint at a 2D feel while remaining a 3D model. Finally, the colors give the image a nice, clean personality, which I am a big fan of. Very nice work, I really dig this piece.

You know what would be even better?! A chocolatemilkbottlerocket! That would be sweet. Very nice. I dig it.
FrostXtreme Featured By Owner Dec 13, 2004
i think the "fins" could use some other light texture. but its nice

Geez. How does something like this only get 15 comments? This is INSANE! So awesome. Seriously. This is going to be my wallpaper for a good long time. I also dig the vector vs. 3D thing going on here, and the glossiness of the carton is just so insanely luscious. Milky, even. Dannnnnnnnng. Love it. :+fav: fo sho.

Yeah. =)

Actually, I will say that I think the checkerboard background works really well for this because it makes me think more of the Milkbottle Rocket as a concept vehicle, whereas if it were against a colored background or something similar it would appear as if it were out there and flying around.

But as it stands, it's just kinda like "on the drawing board." And sweet as hell.

Very swish work. I love the plasitic look of the carton and the wings. The reflection of the sky is a really nice thouch.
The 2D flame I think is also very cool.

My only crit is the checker background. It makes me think it was just a transparent photoshop layer that was never filled. I think a blue background (perhaps a gradient from light to dark to mimick a sky) would have contrasted the colours of the rocket and looked better.

Otherwise nice work andidas

you are right, very good idea on the background!
I tried it and i think it looks much better with a blue-sky-gradient background (altough i will let it run from dark to light). I am currently rendering the new scene. Thanks.
